Accolades keep coming for Texas volleyball legend


Dear editor,Awards keep rolling in for Alpha Omega Academy's volleyball coach, Janice Hudson. This past weekend at Missouri City, she was the recipient of the Greater Houston Volleyball Associations Legendary Coaches Award, and I'd like to share just a little bit of background about Janice's achievements and accomplishments in the field of volleyball.• Was an all-star volleyball player for Lamar University • While at Lamar University was recommended for and received the Phoenix Award• Was instrumental in helping the USA team challenge international powers at the prestigious Caribbean Cup• While at Monahans High School, in West Texas, took her team to state four times and won back-to-back state championships• Was named Texas Tech's first volleyball coach and built a solid foundation for the successful Texas Tech volleyball program, in which she complied an impressive record of wins in 10 seasons, and that record still stands today• While at Texas Tech she was active in the USVBA Master's Division competition and earned All-America honors in 1978 and 1981• Is chosen to call the state volleyball games• Is chosen to be a coach for the All Stars volleyball games at the state level• Was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Honor at Lubbock • Served as president of the AVOC Official's Association numerous times• Received honors as the HAVOC Outstanding Service Award• Received Who's Who in Outstanding Teachers• Won Southwest Conference Coach of the Year Award• Won District 23-5A Coach of the Year Award • Was honored by the Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association as a GVHCA Legends Award which honors coaches who have made an outstanding impact on volleyball and those players involved in the sport• Will be honored as one of 30 coaches at Waco's Hall of Fame in Waco on June 30.
